COPENHAGEN DAY 1
The two flights to Copenhagen weren't too shabby. Uneventful. I binged the Netflix limited series, Bodkin, which I highly recommend. Perhaps got 1-2 hours of sleep when I arrived in Copenhagen at 12:45pm local time.
After a bit of rummaging through the airport and surprise at the cost of a bottle of water: $25 (just kidding that's in Danish Krone - just 3.90 USD), I arrived at the Metro. Pretty straightforward, though I almost went on the wrong track. I had taken screenshots of the Google Maps directions from the airport to my Airbnb. I wound up only walking in the wrong direction after I exited to Metro at the Forum stop for about five minutes before I turned around. There were about a dozen of young blonde girls wearing what appeared to be a sailor captain's hat all holding flowers. A celebration is at hand! A quick google search netted, "high school graduates wear a traditional white cap called a "studenterhue" after passing their final exams. This cap is a significant symbol of completing upper secondary education and becoming eligible to study at a university."
Well all right, Tillykke to them! Congratulations in Danish.
Copenhagen is very clean. Very straightforward. Lots of children. LOTS AND LOTS OF BABIES AND MAMAS. Wait, should have put the emphasis on this: LOTS AND LOTS OF SALONS. Like, barber shop after barber shop. Salon after salon. I'm going to walk in to one tomorrow and get my hair cut again, actually. It's not falling right. It's irking me. And I might as well take it as a sign from the universe that I should patron a salon due to the sheer volume of them - I counted 6 in what felt like 1 NYC Avenue's walk. Also double wait - SO MANY BIKES! But, we all knew that.
My Airbnb is lovely. The instructions provided by the host were flawless. I napped for about an hour 45 then went back out. Didn't have a full exploration worth of energy in me, so I stumbled to my host's recommended cafe and paid $7.50 for a cappuccino. Not surprising but not necessarily worth that. Ah, who am I kidding, it was delightful. Here it is in all its glory.

Anyways
Overall, I'm so happy I'm here. I surprised myself, however, when I kept reaching for my phone to text Truman. I guess that makes sense; he is my husband and he is great. I want to share things with him. For so long I've wanted to go on solo trips to meet people, discover new things, see and smell and experience life from a new angle. I am still very much looking forward to do the latter two, but is it bad that I don't really want to meet new people? Maybe that's 34 for you. And I would much prefer to be able to share moments with Truman in real time and in person rather than via phone. I DON'T WANT TO LOOK AT MY PHONE.
But Google Maps! Maybe I should stop at a tourist store tomorrow and buy and actual map. My mom would be so proud.
Here are the rest of today's photos I deemed noteworthy. I didn't venture into the ultra touristy part of town yet; I'm staying in Frederiksberg across the Peblinge Sø (lake). It was an oercast day. I need sleep. You can probably tell from the tone on this blog that I'm sleepy. It's 9:19pm local and IT IS STILL BRIGHT OUTSIDE. Oh my gosh, internet just confirmed that the sun doesn't set until 9:58pm, haha. Thank goodness for these blackout shades my host so expertly installed.
Until tomorrow.
All my love,
Rachel

OBVIOUSLY, THERE WILL BE FLOWER PHOTOS!
So freaking beautiful!

AND I EVEN GOT A LITTLE ARTSY
Because nobody cares and I thought they looked cool.
